This original Morris Minor Light 5cwt van was first registered in November 1931 in Oxford.
It was used as a publicity vehicle for two companies around the Bristol area, Motor Master an Auto electrical company and Brenmark a fasteners company, it then passed into the hands of a friend in 2000 and it has been in my ownership since 2012.
It is fitted with the s.v. engine and three speed gearbox, it has good oil pressure and runs well,, the radiator is fitted with a Boyce Motormeter.
Shortly after I got the vehicle I found that the engine was not performing as it should, the bores were found to be glazed so the engine was removed and I had the bores glaze busted and fitted new piston rings +015" and it now well run in.
Whilst the engine was out the cylinder head studs were replaced with stainless steel studs and nuts.
The interior retains it's original form, with a wooden planking floor, wooden dash, opening brass windscreen and the two doors have sliding glass windows, the nearside retains it's original catch. There is a single drivers seat fitted.
The rear doors look original and are fitted with the original catches and hinges, all very quaint but functional, the rear windows are oval as was the style in the early 1930's.
There are a number of body repairs which must have been done many years ago, I have retained these as they give the vehicle charm and a link back to when she was a working vehicle.
The spare tyre is fitted to the nearside door in it's original position and the van can be secured by the locks on the three doors. The vehicle is fitted with a battery master switch and the 6 volt battery was replaced recently, the two fabric universal joints on the propshaft have been replaced recently.
The van was restored in the 1980's and a large part of the original bodywork has been retained, the wings were renewed during the restoration and are in excellent condition.
Hartford shockers are fitted front and rear, the running boards have had their fluted rubber and aluminium edges replaced recently, the chrome has been re-chromed and the 5 wire wheels have been shot blasted and powder coated. The wings lights and bonnet have been re-painted recently. The chassis is in excellent condition as can be seen from the images.
All 5 wheels are fitted with the correct "MORRIS MINOR" logo centres
During my ownership it has seen good service, carrying around my ordinary cycle ( penny farthing ) which just fits in two pieces in the rear, and visiting various rallies and vintage car meetings around the area. I have also replaced the plywood floor in the drivers compartment as this was delaminating and the load space floor with pine T&G suitably aged.
The ignition is on an advance/retard lever on the dashboard and it retains it's original pedal configuration of centre accelerator. It has quaint oval rear windows and a number of body repairs that must have been done many years ago but are still working fine, it has much charm, is in great condition and is a massive attraction anywhere it is goes !
It starts and runs well and is a lovely quaint vehicle, it's ready to pass on to it's next custodian, it has been great fun running her in the last several years, but other projects call.
I am asking £12,500 ovno as she is worth every penny of that, cute small commercials are hard to find in this great condition and are usually much more that that figure. This is not your usual example, tatty and requiring lots of work, it is in lovely condition.
The car is located in Southport on the North West coast 20 miles North of Liverpool.
Original Morris Motors Body plate, with considerable patina !
Located just inside the nearside door
Original Log Book
I also have quite a lot of historical information relating to it's previous owners Brenmark, this includes entry into a Festival of Transport in 1988 in Bristol, information on work done on it in 1986 and a bill for wings dated 1997.
The most interesting item is an old logbook dated Jan 1950 ( see above ) ( this may be the 2nd logbook to be issued for the vehicle ) gives quite a lot of detail about previous owners in the 50's and 60's and about the van itself.
